RICHARD JOHNSON LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

Willow Farm

with Jill Neubauer Architects
Project completed while a Principal with Stephen Stimson Associates

An existing horse farm was renovated to create a more generous landscape experience. Paddock fences were pushed back from farm roads to allow for rows of trees to define circulation through the site. A viewing platform was created beside a riding arena with earthwork and bluestone steps. The lunge ring for exercising horses was enclosed within a carpinus hedge, uplit from below to glow at night like a lantern. Rows of perennials and roses were added to the intermediate lawn areas for seasonal color. A large pool, spa and pool house were built into a terraced hillside beside the existing house, with views out over the farm. The deep end of the pool is a waterfall visible only from the spa.
